The title of this recipe is “torte” but it isn’t really a torte. It isn’t really a pavlova either. Trying to find a recipe just like this one is impossible. But this is a traditional Christmas dessert in my family. It requires a DOZEN eggs. When it bakes, it ends up with a nice crunchy coating. It is covered with whipped cream.

Who doesn’t like a rainbow? Really this is vanilla or white cake with food coloring.

This recipe was posted in the San Diego Union Tribune newspaper when I was a kid.

This potato and ham casserole also has peas, celery, onions, and cheese.

This casserole combines chicken, celery, chopped tomato, Velveeta cheese, onion, rice, and basil.

This recipe is very similar to Bethany’s salad, but doesn’t have the shredded carrots and has mandarin oranges instead. This has apricot Jell-O, mandarin oranges, crushed pineapple, cream cheese, and “Dream Whip”. Is Dream Whip still something you can buy? I have never used it.

This is a very rich cake that requires a can of coconut pecan frosting IN the cake batter! Interesting take.
