Ingredients

  • 1 c sugar
  • butter or other shortening about the size of an egg
  • 1 egg
  • 1 orange
  • ¾ c sour milk or buttermilk, milk can be poured with tbsp vinegar
  • 2 c flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 c raisins

Instructions

  • Cream the shortening and sugar.
  • Add egg, sour milk, flour, salt, and soda. Mix well.
  • Grind orange rind and raisins, and add to cake batter.
  • bake in flat pan about 25 minutes at 350° or 375°.
  • Pour the juice of the orange over 1/2 c sugar, and pour this over warm (not hot) cake.
  • Serve from baking pan.
  • Good with a little whipped cream.
