Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Ground beef
  • 1 qt Tomato juice
  • 1 can Tomato purée, 29oz
  • 1 can Kidney beans, 15oz, drained
  • 1 can Pinto beans, 15oz, drained
  • 1 medium-large Onion, chopped, about 1.5 cups
  • ½ cup Celery, diced
  • ¼ cup Green pepper, diced
  • ¼ cup Chili powder, or less if that is too much
  • 1 tsp Cumin, use more for additional flavor
  • 1 ½ tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Black pepper
  • ½ tsp Oregano
  • ½ tsp Sugar
  • tsp Cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef. Drain off the fat.
  • Put the beef and the remaining ingredients in a 6-quart pot. Cover the pot and let the chili simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes. You can also cook this in a slow cooker on low for 3 to 4 hours.
